21 and I just started stuttering. Hey r/stutter, hope I'm in the right subreddit. I'm a 21 year old female who started stuttering and having speech impairment about a week ago. It was an ordinary Friday, and I began stuttering and slurring my speech along with having some difficulty with basic motor skills (walking, arm movements). I also noticed a strange metallic taste in my mouth, which may or may not be related. I went to the ER and they diagnosed me with atypical migraines because of a similar incident 2 months prior. After a round of saline the stuttering went away. The next day, the same thing happened but without the ER trip. I woke up Sunday and have been stuttering since. I occasionally have trouble walking or moving my arms, shakiness, fatigue, and have moderate to severe headaches. I went to a neurologist today and he seemed less than concerned. He said I need to see a psychiatrist, get on anxiety medication and anti-depressants, and that my stuttering was caused by stress. I have not had any major life changes or stressful events occur, so I'm not sure I trust his diagnosis. Anyone else have a similar experience, or advice? As a sidenote: I also have Chiari Malformation, and I'm not sure if that is related in any way. Thanks in advance.
