I just tell the person “btw I stutter, hope you don’t mind” and then go ahead and say whatever the heck I was gonna say. I don’t hide my stammer any more than someone with Cerebral Palsy would hide their disability. It’s the way my brain works and the way I speak. Stuttered speech is just as valid as fluent speech. What I say is more important than how I say it. We shouldn’t be bending over backwards to hide our stammer. I suggest to research Stuttering Pride. It’s a beautiful movement to reclaim our stuttered voice and normalise our way of speaking. There’s a book called *Stammering; Pride and Prejudice* which is a wonderful read.
