Am I an asshole? Just now I called a hotel I stayed at to get an invoice of what they charged my card for. When I spoke to the manager, he thought the line was cutting out & I explained to him that I have a speech impediment so the line isn’t breaking up. He basically ignored me & we continued the conversation (he had a pretty impatient tone the whole time it seemed like). Then a minute or two later I stuttered again & he just hung up on me. I called back & explained to the front desk what happened & asked if I could speak to him again. I also asked her if she could inform the manager about what I told her so he wouldn’t hang up on me again. She was very sweet & understanding & apologized a few times. So, I get connected to the manager & he doesn’t even acknowledge what happened. This time he doesn’t hang up on me, thankfully. He still had somewhat of an impatient tone & wasn’t very hospitality-like. At the end of the conversation, I confirmed that he was the manager I spoke to before who hung up on me & his excuse was “I wasn’t aware you had a speech impediment” even though I told him. I followed up with “well I definitely told you that I had one so maybe in the future when someone tells you that don’t hang up on them”. All he said was I understand with no apologies or concern. Maybe I’m overreacting but this interaction didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth. But I’m also proud for standing up for myself, something I wouldn’t have done in the past. I also want to leave a bad yelp review LOL.
