I need guidance... My son is an incredibly bright young boy. When he was young, he was always advanced in his speech and development. However, last year he has developed a very pronounced stutter. Over time, it has grown to an every sentence occurrence. It's normally first sound stutter, commonly on the first word. It is starting to affect him, as he knows his speech is off. I try to be supportive, let him figure it out. If it gets bad, I tell him to take a breath, think about what he is trying to say, and start again. Am I worrying too much? Is it just a phase? Are there speech therapists that he can see (at four)? He is a joint custody child, so I am sure the stress has something to do with it. I just don't want him to be hindered because I didn't act soon enough. Also, I was a stutterer. I had my tongue clipped (not sure it's related) at a young age and was in therapy.
