Bad experience through immigration Hi all, I just landed in the US and had a terrible experience when going through the US border. Any interaction I have with law enforcement or with someone who has a strong sense of authority I get really anxious and my throat tightens up and i struggle a lot more than I usually do with my everyday speaking. I had all my documents in order, went up to the counter and handed my passport - the immigration officer asked me numerous questions about why I was visiting and I had a really hard time answering them because I kept blocking, I don’t know if he knew I had a stutter and it probably looked like I was hiding something or acting out of the ordinary- so he sent my to secondary inspection into a room with other people where I waited for an hour. At this stage I was extremely nervous, agitated, angry and upset - a range of mixed emotions and the thought going through my head was ‘if I didn’t stutter I wouldn’t be here’ I had a 30min interview with this one guy who asked me intensively what my travel plans were and then I was allowed entry into the US. When travelling I’m so used to using the automated passport gates and having limited interactions with customs staff, or when I do they rarely ask any questions or just questions that require a yes or no answer. Does anyone have any similar experiences and any advice or how to overcome this problem as I’m going to be travelling back and forward to the US regularly.
