Playing conversations in my head The sad thing about living with a stutter where it's not welcomed or accepted, is you always have to live on guard to protect yourself from being attacked, bullied etc. One of the defence mechanism I've developed to protect myself is "playing conversations in my head". Since I was a kid, I used to prepare answers to all the questions that people going to ask me and i how i need to answer them, so I can be ready when needed. For example, i used to think about what my aunt used to ask for thanksgiving a week before. What started as a protective mechanism during childhood is touring with me even in adulthood. Even today, whenever i have free time during talking a walk, before going to bed, driving, simply during silly daydreaming, i play conversations in my head around what to anticipate in the future. Is this exhausting? That's a good question and let me think about it
