Well here's a secret I learned about SLPs; though many mean well, most are clueless when it comes to treating stuttering. If you aren't getting anywhere with your current SLP, I would switch. All those secondary behaviors which are not integrated in you, those are going to take some time to retool and it's going to have to happen one by one and very slowly. Can I assume you're from the UK? If so, check out the BSA. http://www.stammering.org/help-information/topics/therapy-treatment/adult-therapy-and-courses. Drinking obviously isn't going to work because you cant be drunk all the time and who wants to be drunk just to say something. I would try to find an SLP who knows about cognitive treatment in addition to behavioral modification. Hopefully you can start with her on working to eliminate one of your secondaries and get more ok with stuttering. But try to vet the SLP carefully. If she's making you blow into tubes or repeat sounds or breath in a certain way, I dont think thats going to be lasting as that is fluency control focused. Listen to www.stuttertalk.com podcasts. They have on really excellent SLPs who can show you what a qualified one is like.
