How I Became Fluent A fellow member asked me about my experience so I thought I'd share it with everyone. Perhaps someone can take something from it. *** This is MY experience, it may or may not work for you. Do your due diligence. Tldr: Severe stutter as child, continued into 20s. I took action in various ways that may or may not have helped. Ok so, I had a severe stutter as a child 5-12. Kids would get me to say wh wh wh whopper and then laugh about it. My parents didn't really do much as far as treatment and it sort of went away a little bit on its own into teenage years. It was still there but not debilitating. The stutter came back around the end of my teenage years. I'm not sure why but I was getting into things like cocaine so maybe that was it. I continued to stutter well into my 20s even though I wasn't doing cocaine anymore. It was very difficult, I'd have to make important phone calls and block and stutter the whole way through. Pure terror. Around early 30s I'd had enough and did whatever I could to get better. I attended two speech therapy sessions which were helpful (and expensive, which is why I only did two) in that she gave me some tools to use such as adding breath to my speech, using different sounds to start difficult words, slowing down, etc. I read aloud to friends. I made phone calls I wouldn't normally make. It didn't help right away but definitely helped over time. As far as psilocybin, I had approx 10-15 medium to heavy trips during my 19 - 28 years. Since then (I'm 37) I have tripped heavy a handful of times and am now microdosing (very small, nearly imperceptible doses) regularly, a couple times a week. I believe it has helped/helps my stutter as well as my overall attitude, happiness, goal setting, etc etc. Again, I can't say for sure though, it's not like the day after a trip I wake up and the stutter is gone. It takes time. Also, in my 20s I really got into yoga and meditation. I am sure that has helped my fluency, probably by slowing me down. Haha now I tend to talk a bit slower than others and have had people comment that I need to speak more enthusiastically. You just can't win sometimes lol I still stutter every now and then, usually if I haven't been sleeping well. Good luck and keep trying. Something that really bothers me on this sub is the victim mentality. Yeah stuttering sucks but we all have the ability to do something about it. No excuses. Good luck!
