I’ve been in the US Army for 12 years. Once you get over the jokes (or beat them to the punch and make jokes before they can) it’s fine. No one cares about your stutter as much as you do. I will say, though, that it hasn’t been without hurdles. I was recently denied a Pathfinder spot that I had reserved because students are prohibited from having speech impediments. Whatever, I’ve still been able to pick up E6. My stutter has had zero bearing on picking up promotions or any other opportunities. I’ve been mobilized a couple of times. I did get a chuckle, though, at Middle Easterners’ response to my stutter. They always had a weird look on their face when I talked to them like I was broken or something. Anyway, AMA.
