I had a similar backstory to yours where my stutter showed up around age 12 as well. Started mild but got significantly worse overtime. I think speech therapy is kind of the by-product of there being no real treatment to stuttering and honestly I don't think its really worth it for the price you pay. As I get older I think the only real solution is just to learn to live with it. I stutter at work, personal life, and just about everywhere but it never stopped me from talking. Like if your stutter is like really bad than maybe I would consider speech therapy but if its moderate or manageable than yeah I would probably just live with it.
