I'm a 25-year old female medical student with a stutter. Is there any stuttering doctor who can give me some advice? Hi there! I'm a medical student from Germany. Right now I'm in my 5th year of studies and in only about 1,5 years I will start to look out for a job. I'm very interested in infectious diseases and tropical medicine, but right now I'm struggling very hard with my internships in the hospitals because of my speech defect. I love interacting with people and most of the time I'm a happy, smiling and open person, and I get a lot of positive feedback from patients. But sometimes I feel very insecure because of my future, I don't know how I should manage doing all these phone calls and presenting patients to collegues... there are times where I even feel depressed because I feel that my stutter makes it so hard for me to follow my dreams. I'm even afraid that my habit to avoid certain words and questions will make me a bad doctor. So, I'm really grateful for any kind of advice, especially from another doctor who is struggling with stuttering. How are you dealing with it in your daily working routine? How about the phone calls? Are your collegues and your bosses supportive and sympathetic? Also, I'm very open to any other comments :). If you have any questions for me, about my studies and my past, don't hesitate to ask.
