Yeah, it's a common misconception, many people assume that only childrens have stuttering issues As a student who stutters almost every word in sentence, my self esteem became so bad due to the fear and feeling of worthlessness when I can't even communicate a simple message, it's getting worse and worse. But one thing I understand about stutter is It's get worse only if you try hard not stutter. When I speak without any preparation and stuffs i speak normally most of times, but it's very hard to think about not stuttering while speaking as you know what happens when we try to not think something, our brain thinks they exact thing So I'm trying not to care about my stutter anymore, if i stutter, i stutter, that's it. This mindset helped me get confident with my stutter. Good luck with your future and next time don't try to fight your stutter but try to live with it
