Emotions and Stuttering Hello, I just recently joined this sub and it’s weird because I never before thought there were people going through the same shitty condition that I was, so there has never really been someone I could talk to about this. I wanted to ask you, fellow stutterers, what do you think about the relation between emotions and stuttering? I mean, it’s pretty obvious that when you get stressed you stutter more, but my real question is, could you prevent stuttering completely if you could control the way you feel about it? I more and more feel the solution lies somewhere around this... at least in my case, I feel like 90% of the stuttering happens because I get more and more anxious when I start stuttering, or even when I predict that I’m gonna have to talk in a social situation. Or even when I’m not anxious at all, and I’m just talking to a close friend, most of the time I’m thinking about how I’m gonna talk or say something, instead of thinking about the conversation itself, and I feel it worsens the stutter, a lot. I’ve tried meditation in order to control my thought and feelings, and it helped for a while, but then I stopped because I’m lazy and it was taking too much to make any significant effects, but I definitely think it’s a way to go, if you can really stick to it. I’ve also thought about hypnotherapy because I think it’s just a different form of meditation with way faster results. So, what do you think?
