I stuttered badly while talking to another stutterer

I stuttered badly while talking to another stutterer I joined my new office and found this guy who has a severe stutter. I was just hearing him talking to others. He was sitting next me. I tried approaching him. Said "excuse me"...then blank. Couldn't utter a single word. He consoled me coz he had some idea of what I was going through. I'm wondering, did the fact that he stutters made me more nervous or something else happened? Any thoughs or similar experiences?
