Mine has greatly improved over the past 5 years, it still comes up frequently. The greatest obstacle I had to overcome was my comfort in speaking situations and self confidence. I always mention my stutter to new people so they aren’t alarmed if they hear it, that way I don’t need to suppress it. I went from not talking to anyone and writing down what I wanted to say to speaking to legislators. Another important thing for me was identifying which situations I stutter more and less in and looking deeper into the factors of each situation. An example of this is that when I’m a little stoned I don’t stutter - this is something I learned to replicate without substances. Speech therapy isn’t just about speech - psychological and biological factors in your body as well as their relationship with one another play a huge role. So in simpler words I find dealing with a stutter requires a higher awareness of yourself, what’s going on in your head and in your body. Everyone is different but I hope this bit of perspective is helpful in navigating your journey.
