McGuire Graduate here. My first course was last October and those first 2-3 weeks afterwards were phenomenal. I felt like a new person, like I was free from this monster that had imprisoned me my whole life up until that point....then I slipped, didn’t keep up with the technique and fell flat on my feet. This was during the Christmas period, where the stress of worrying about buying presents, working overtime and coursework deadlines hit me hard. This, in turn affected my speech greatly. I felt overwhelmed, my speech wasn’t great at all. Not as worse as before the programme, but still, not good. This was a relapse and I knew that exactly what I had been doing wrong so after the new year went by, I picked myself up and managed to get myself back into a good place, speech-wise. Then I went on my ‘refresher’ course in March which was like a mental reset for myself, as I got that initial ‘buzz’ again after it was over. Point is, you need to and must be willing to give it your all, work on it every single day, constantly pushing your comfort zones, and maintaining a positive mindset, but let me tell you one thing, it was the best decision I ever made. Personally, I have quite of a journey ahead to consider myself in a ‘good’ place currently as I have been slacking recently, so ultimately it’s down to you, the programme gives you the techniques and resources available and it’s up to you to use them. I recommend buying the “beyond stuttering” book as well as “why I called my sister Harry” by Michael O’Shea as they have aided me tremendously. Best of luck in your journey mate
