When I used to follow therapy to improve my stutter,we had to do a family exercise which increased my families understanding of living with a stutter tremendously and reduced their ridicule of my significantly. The exercise was actually quite simple: They each had to go into a busy shop (bakery, butcher, something like that) and had to order something while stuttering the same way I did. The shame and helplessness they felt while doing that really opened their eyes to the emotional part we feel when it happens to us. Not saying it’ll help in your case but it’s worth a try.
