I did the advice people had been telling me my whole life. I just did it. I pushed myself beyond what i was comfortable with. I went to my interview covered in sweat and clamy palms. I started off with "sorry i have a stutter and it gets worse when im nervous." turns out lots of people dont care or have a relative that stutters so they understand. My first job is walmart. I fit in here. Seems everyone has some sort of story. The more i talk to people the easier it gets. My biggest regret is not doing this years ago.
