One Speech Therapy veteran's suggesions for you guys. Hey guys, I have not checked this sub for a while. I come back this time just to offer some suggestions for you guys who are willing to conduct speech therapies! I left this sub cuz I don't think my stuttering can integrate into my life at all. I am gradually less and less fixated on it. So after posting I will probably never post if I don't need to. 1.A good speech therapy/therapist can compound speech technique introductions with 'mental therapy'. Stuttering is not just purely a neurological misfiring or a psychological issue in most cases, so if a therapist is expertise enough at stuttering, he/she will introduce you techniques and simultaneously offer mental helps as the countermeasure. [2.You](https://2.You) are likely not to need to conduct therapies for only once! It's also possible for you to conduct therapies for multiple times but the results will be still out of your expectations! I once had chats with the Stuttering Community's (the biggest community on FB) admin Paul Goldstein, and he is typical of a client who conducted several therapies but only one therapy worked on him but he is still suffering from stuttering. You can also go ask him for more details. I want to make long story short so here I don't elaborate it very much. 3.If you don't have good outcomes from therapies, it's not all the time therapists' faults. You should also retrospect your committments after therapies are finished. If you don't dedicate yourself into therapies enough, then you shouldn't totally blame your therpists for not improving your situations. 4.Plz remember go find some experienced, board-certificated, good-attituded therapists who are SPECIALIZED in stuttering! If you go find those therapists that don't meet up these conditions, then I also can't guarantee you can have good outcomes. 5.If you don't need to, plz don't 'recommend' your therapists for anybody else. It seems that you are really helping someone cuz you are really introducing a good therapist in your eyes, but it may be also tarnishing his/her reputations and even yours on the other hand. It will increase others' suspects to the therapists you are recommending. You'd better introduce your therapists when others are really inquiring you about how your stuttering is improved(but also don't start with 'I gotta feel grateful for XXX therapist!), but don't on purpose introduce them. If someone is skeptical about him/her just bc of your recommendations then you are actually disserving. Stuttering is not a popular disease like COVID-19, so there is still a very long way to go for researches into stuttering, including its treatments. So it induces many charlatans to larp as good therapists who can cure your stuttering. So if someone was deceived by such charlatans, you will disserve if you are recommending random therapists. Good luck my pals!
