It’s elevated anxiety which essentially increases dopamine, cortisol, adrenaline and that “fight or flight” mode in the central nervous system. All these factors contribute to further dysfluency and speech blocks. Our aim is to remain as calm as we possibly can to minimise these physiological symptoms of elevated anxiety. Higher anxiety exacerbates stuttering for most of us.
