Anyone find themselves become more quiet and selectively mute as they get older? I started a new job in July, but I haven't build comraderie with my colleagues. I do my work just fine but I don't get along with them the same way another guy, who started three weeks ago has already done. I know that this is my fault. I don't really talk because of my stutter, and I found that I've slowly gotten more quiet and only speak when absolutely necessary. I don't try to get to know people because I am just tired of dealing with the awkward stares, the glazed looks, frequent interruptions, and the patronizing reactions. Like most of us here, I am introverted by choice but not by nature. It's just increased the older I get and it bums me out.
