Anyone else feel trapped in group conversations??

Anyone else feel trapped in group conversations?? Especially hen everyone else is conversing fluently and making jokes and bantering, then you try and contribute then you stutter on your joke and the "vibe" kind of dies. It really stings when that happens, and I'm not sure what to do, aside from not contribute when that energy is around, and wait until it is more of a calm/serious topic.
