I took Chase Gillis' program a few years ago. He had his clients do "comfort zone challenges" - one of the challenges he assigned to us was to approach a certain number of strangers and tell them, "Hey. My name is...I stutter. Do you mind having a short conversation with me so I can practice working on my speech?" That was something I had never done before, and the thought frightened me, but I did it. Not every one will accept your request, but MANY will, for sympathetic reasons at the very least. It feels awkward at first, but after a few times, it becomes easy. Not only are you getting practice reps speaking with strangers, you're also desensitizing any shame you may by speaking openly about it. I met a lot of cool people by doing this, and got SO MANY girls numbers - it's really a cheat code lol. If you feel bold enough, I think it would be a good way to approach that gym crush of yours - you'll probably make a good friend at the very least.
