As a person who's suffered many a foot-in-mouth moment, I think about this a lot. Although stuttering leads to many awkward moments, there are times I'm relieved I was held back from saying something potentially hurtful (or WAY more awkward than a long block). Of course, stuttering is a spectrum and someone with a more severe stutter would probably kill for even a moment of awkward fluency.
