great post but I disagree about this lets all play circle time and pat on the back to bad speech or under qualified speech therapists. We can do respectfully and I agree thats the right approach, to be respectful but it is WRONG and UNETHICAL for a therapist to pimp these patients out, knowing that they aren't qualified and knowing that there are better therapist and programs out there. That would be like a nurse treating a cancer patient, knowing that they weren't seeing an oncologist and that an oncologist could provide antineoplastic drugs... when the nurse can't prescribe.... I hope that if I were a speech therapist, and I specialized in a lisp or I wasn't bcs-f and pretended to know as much with a severe stutterer, that I would have the decency to refer the patient out. Many don't. It is unacceptable in my book.
