I have a late-onset stutter that I believe is psychogenic in origin, and I stutter just as much when I'm alone. It seems like it developed along with its severity. When it was mild in the beginning, it only happened in certain social situations, not when I was by myself. But now it has gotten much worse and affects my speech in all situations. However, I don't stutter when I whisper or sing.
