I realize I'm posting much later than the original post, but I'm glad I stumbled upon this. I'm actually a SLP grad student and I'm conducting research on this exact topic (pertaining to how a disclosure statement affects a fluent listener's physiological and emotional responses, as well as possible differences between genders). I'm curious as to why you're against the disclosure statement? I don't stutter myself, so I'm not sure how I would feel about it. However, I think some of the other commenters had a good point in which it's the way that you phrase it (i.e. not in an apologetic way), and also depending on the situation. What do you think? What has been your experience? (Assuming you are a PWS)
