My little one is an extrovert. I’m trying to raise him so his stutter doesn’t hold him back. Can I say how awesome the NSA conference is? It’s a safe space filled with opportunities for public speaking and socializing. Public speaking in front of the most sympathetic crowd ever. Panel discussions on stage, presentations, talent show, performances, you name it. Social events with people who get you. It was life changing for us. You have a voice. What you have to say is important and worth hearing. Be your authentic self. And don’t fall for any crap that makes your stutter out to be your fault. If you could fix it, I’m sure you would have. No one chooses to stutter. Yes, there are secondary behaviors that you can change with a lot of work and effort. But it can be a hell of a lot of work and effort. Yes you can “use your tools” but that’s unrealistic most of the time when you just want to speak. I’m still mad at that article that was linked a few days ago. It hit a raw nerve. Gah.
