We are NOT below "normal" people. Just because you are not a fluent speaker does not mean you are below ANYONE. If someone has a problem with your way of speaking, that's on them. It speaks about them, not you. I totally agree that we have to face the fact that we stutter. We truly do. But we have to decide what that means. I beat myself up for a solid 20 years before I changed how I look at my stutter. It wasn't easy, and at times it still isn't easy, but I worked long and hard on it. I had an interview for a job today and I stuttered several times, but I worked my way thru it with the tools and strategies I have and it was fine. That's what the last 15+ years has taught me (with several metric tons of help). You can too. I don't mean to preach (and I apologize if I come across that way), but I'm protective of my fellow stutterers. We did nothing wrong by being a stutterer. It was a roll of the genetic dice. I strongly believe that we don't have to apologize for it, and I believe you don't have to apologize to anyone for being you. I know I can only speak about my experiences, but maybe my story will help you get insight into yours. I wish you easy, forward flowing speech!
