When it returns as an adult--I'm an "adult stutterer" and I can't even *ask* my family if I stuttered as a kid, because they're the "we don't talk about it" type--apparently it's stress, life-events related. Which means, good news, it is probably not permanent. Bad news: you might have some self-evaluation and some mental work to do. And try and do what I do: joke about it (as awkward as we feel about it, if we share the awkwardness, that's the part where other people feel it) and try and remember that we're the ones most aware of it. Sometimes, other people don't even hear the stutter.
