Hi, I am a stutter who has presented her research at a couple of conferences, luckily just posters and small events. But presenting with a stutter is probably the most anxiety ridden thing we could do! Or for me anyways. I’m not in a great spot with my speech at the moment but honestly just pushing through and doing it no matter how much you stutter. At least you tried and are doing something worth sharing! My first research speaking event, I was 19 and stuttered sooo bad through the whole thing, it was suppose to be a 5 minute elevator speech and mine took triple to get through about 6 sentences. I held up the entire event and it was terrible. I was so happy it was over and that I did that. I spoke infront of however many people and stuttered on every damn word. But I did it. And doing it rather than avoiding opportunities shows a lot about what is REALLY important, your work. The best part about that event was that a professor at my school, came up to me and said you did so good up there, I have a stutter too. He gave me some really amazing words and to end it he said stuttering keeps us humble. So I just thought I would share that with you! Don’t let opportunities like that slide by!
