If you plan on saying any words at all during the year (likely), people are going to find out eventually that you stutter. See this as an opportunity for 1. People to find out on your terms 2. You to briefly explain to the class how they can help you Something like: "Hi. I'm sioux4 and many of you know that I stutter. For those who don't here's how you can help me if I get stuck: _______" (the advice I give to people is to just wait for me to say the word). Keep it short (2-3 sentences). I'm a high school teacher with a moderate-to-severe stutter, and wait I just gave you is basically the first words I say to any new class. Now, a student's world is different from a teacher's, but you may be surprised at how people react if you tackle it straight on. Those snickers you hear may be people laughing simply because they don't know how to react.
