I think it's been said to be genetic, but I'm the only person in my family who stutters so it isn't the only cause. I think that it's perhaps environmental factors, for example, if a toddler hears someone stuttering whilst talking to them all day every day, they pick up on it. I think I got mine because in nursery I spent all day with a kid who stuttered.
