We don't know what exactly causes stutter. But we do know one thing about it: _It's not your fault_. What you describe sounds like you think it's something you're doing to yourself. It's not. It may feel like it's brought on by something you do, but that's not how it works. We know that much. And yeah, people aren't in general very informed about stutter, but there's plenty of trite advice floating around, like you mention. Sounds like you experienced a shitty therapist for sure. Perhaps give it another go with a different one.
