It is absolutely proper etiquette. Just don't seem impatient and try to egg him to finish, that is the worst.I work in retail, so i'm talking to people all day long. The majority of them are fairly chill. I'll get some form of awkward laugh or smile every now and then, but generally if I'm treated like there is nothing wrong with my speech, I automatically love you.
