Okay so I’m a speech therapist so take this with a grain of salt! A lot of speech therapists are unfortunately hesitant to work with people who stutter because they feel under qualified so I would definitely look for a therapist who has a background in stuttering. National stuttering association or stuttering foundation may have a list of providers? Speech therapy is now focused a lot more towards building resilience in communication and understanding that your voice matters. Speech therapists may teach techniques to help with moments of stuttering but a good speech therapist will make sure to help your child gain confidence in their speaking! You may also be eligible for school-based speech services which is something to look into if you’re interested. The slp may or may not be that into stuttering, but they will be a support person for your child in the school.
