I don’t have a stuttering parent but a stuttering child. My spouse and I have very good speech. My son has always stuttered ever since he started talking. Everyone kept saying that it will go away even his doctor. In 3 grade his teacher noticed his speech and suggested speech therapy for his stutter. At times I as a parents get very angry that why does my perfect child has speech impediment. Of course I don’t tell him that or show my emotions. I’ve cried alone. I feel for my child. But finally I accepted it and found help for my child. He knows he stutters and always will. I found and talked to several therapists and doctors who specialize in stuttering. I listened to them. They gave me some really good advice. Now having said all of this, I am assuming you are older than my son, equip yourself with knowledge. Accept that you stutter and get the help you need. You maybe too old to be depending on your parents so get the help yourself. FWIW, I got hearing impairment from my dad. I can actually feel what he went through raising us. He didn’t choose it but he gave us a very good happy life despite of the struggles he faced. I am happy for that and I hope my son will also be proud and thankful to his parents helping and supporting him.
