Anticipation is an emotion involving pleasure or anxiety in considering or awaiting an expected event. Anticipatory emotions include fear, anxiety, hope and trust. When the anticipated event fails to occur, it results in **disappointment (for a positive event) or relief (for a negative one)**. The simplest distinction is between **explicit and implicit anticipation**. Explicit anticipations are those of which the system is aware. They may be used as synonyms for predictions or expectations. Implicit anticipations, by contrast, work below the threshold of consciousness. **Anticipation attempts to avoid hypothesized hazards; resilience is concerned with those that have been realized**. Resilience is the capacity to cope with unanticipated dangers after they have become manifest, learning to bounce back.
