OK, I see. Your response made me think that maybe I’ll start a separate thread on how people’s parent treated / related to their stutter and how it made them feel. That would help current parents of stutterers, too. My father was really something. He would brusquely tell me to slow down when I was stuttering. Nothing else, just that. No sitting down to ask how I was feeling about it. No real sympathy or attempt at relating. One time, when I was an adult, I was trying to explain something and was stuttering for some reason and he said, ‘Frankie, you know I can tell when you’re not telling the truth.’ He had a keen intelligence, huh? I don’t talk to him anymore for a host of reasons, none pertaining to how he handled my stuttering. That was just icing on the cake he baked.
