I've been a pharmacist for over 5 years and have recently moved from community to hospital. My stutter is moderate and just like you it's always affected by my mood or stress levels. Weirdly I actually speak too fast lol and usually repeat syllables rather than block. In community I was always speaking to patients in person or on the phone, I had some bad days but I found 90% were understanding and respectful. I find most people are only interested in what you have to say, not how you say it. I also remember on a hospital placement I met a senior nurse who had a moderate stutter, she had to often direct ward meetings and present cases to doctors. Everyone understood her perfectly and gave her time to speak when she blocked. I think the key thing to remember is that in hospital usually confused people (due to acute problems) or people that are angry or uneducated may make comments, but only because they don't understand or they have lost their inhibitions. I usually ignore and change the subject unless they really need an explanation about my stutter. As long as you can get the important points across you never have to worry about your level of communication. Just think some non-stutterers lack in listening and are too busy thinking about what to say.
