My boss once told me I should go to Tony Robbins seminar and that would cure me lol. It's annoying and angering especially when it comes from someone in a position of power over you because you can't really say how you feel. But he did mean well so I told him I had seen doctors and speech therapists since I was a child and there was no stuttering panacea. I agree with the other poster, most people do not know the causes and emotional effects of stuttering so they're usually just uninformed and not intentionally mean when they try to "cure" you. Or even when they laugh, ask you if you did that on purpose, even mimic you, etc. They just don't get it.
