Following up after our appointment this week. We are introducing the concept of "smooth" and "bumpy" speech and asking him to "say it one time". Also, giving praise when he doesn't stumble by saying, "I love how you said that" as positive reinforcement. What is encouraging is that the stutter is much better when we are in therapy. Our therapist said that means he can talk without the stutter, but that he is likely letting his guard down at home because he is comfortable there. So if your kiddos feel like they are struggling more at home, that is totally normal and actually a good thing. We are also going to work on being more patient, which my husband and I both really struggle with.
