My Success Story Hello, I am a 16 year old boy from Vancouver, Canada who had a stutter since I was 7. I developed it randomly, do not know why or how to this day. As I began to adjust to life with a stutter I quickly realized that singing or **speaking with an accent** completely eliminated my stuttering. I then realized it was because I was able to make my sentences flow better. I was set to move to a new school to begin the third grade and I knew nobody. So I decided to try and fake a British accent to see if it would really help me become fluent. Well that small idea turned into something a lot bigger. My parents loved the idea and I began speaking in a British accent at home as well. Although I did have moments where it was difficult to keep it up, I always managed to somehow sustain it. For the next 6-7 years it was like this, from elementary school and then onto high school. I found that my stutter at that point was completely gone and I could speak fluently even without the accent. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the accent was a part of me now and I could not speak without it, it was like a bad habit. Last week I realized that I cannot speak a single word without the British accent. But more importantly, I don't stutter anymore. All in all, I just wanted to use this as inspiration for you guys. Other things I did during this time to help my stutter was sleep 9 hours a day (shit is impossible during high school), and I always made sure to step out of my comfort zone, it's come to the point where I'm not anxious to do anything anymore (except speeches in front of my grade). The British accent also had a lot of benefits, the girls love it and you will get 90's on all your English skits. Never give up and use fluency as a motivation to keep working hard, because one day you will experience the feeling of being able to say a sentence without depriving your lungs of every last breath of air.
