This is probably the most helpful and valuable post in this thread. You need to overcome the fear of saying your name. It is the negative perception w.r.t. your name that feeds your stutter. The reason why almost all stutterers have trouble saying their name is because there is no alternative for it. Some try to come up with nicknames or take on an entirely different persona, but the initial ease with which they can say their nicknames tends to wear off with time as that too becomes irreplaceable. During normal conversation, you can alternate between easier words or even if you don't think that you do that, psychologically you know you can get around it. There is no rigidness to it. Let's take an example. Say, in class you have to answer the roll call. You can get past it with saying, present, yes, here, your roll number, your name, etc. BUT, say they asked you to ONLY say your roll number during roll call. That becomes tough because there are no alternatives. The stutterer's mind tends to harbour a lot of negativity w.r.t. some particular words. One of the more severe ones is your name. So even before the time comes, your mind tends to anticipate the situations and goes into fight or flight mode. It starts to project negative outcomes, for example the last time you stuttered when you said your name, etc., and the body does what the mind projects. You don't go into the situation feeling confident, you go with a negative mindset and voila, lo behold, that is exactly what happens.
