Early intervention!! That will teach you and your child learn a lot about the diagnosis and ways to manage it, together. Early intervention is free from birth to 3, just a fun fact. As a PWS, my parents played a huge role and living with a stutter at a young age. They provided me with confidence and always cued me to use my strategies. Being young and not wanting to practice at home it is your job as the parent to push your child to practice and incorporate the strategies learned in speech therapy in everyday speaking situations. My parents had a rough time at first because it was so new to them, educate yourself. There are a lot of resources out there for people who stutter. I wish I had known that there were other kids who stutter, there are camps, National stuttering association, several other events that allow young people who stutter to come together to not feel alone. As an adult now that is something I wish my parents had done for me. Meeting other people who stutter is life changing and create a sense of comfort with stuttering. Encourage your child to accept themselves for who they are stuttering and all! It can be frustrating and a world of emotions, but the parents patience is EVERYTHING. Hope this helps, kinda rambled! But proud of you for catching it this early! I didn’t start therapy till I was 5!
