You are so right. It's not always genetic. There might be a predisposition toward stuttering, but not all people with stutterers in their families stutter. Not all stuttering is caused by trauma, though in my case, psychotherapy dealing with my reaction to childhood abuse, led to my becoming totally fluent at age 70! Though there was stuttering on both sides of my children’s genetics and I was a lifelong stutterer, neither of our children stutter. It's evident there is self-loathing among us stutterers, but denying ourselves the opportunity to engage in parenting, is just another joyful thing we would miss.
