this is a clue. You CAN have the same confidence all the time. Alcohol simply removes your inhibition and loosens you up, and you can recreate this effect using other means. Normally our stutter gets worse in social situation because we fear being judged by others. Our subconscious considers this as a danger to our social well-being, so it puts us in a perpetual 'freeze' mode. Alcohol dampens the response from our subconscious, and brings us out of the freeze mode, allowing us to speak more fluently. HOW can we recreate this in our everyday lives? There are 2 ways that has proven extremely helpful for me: cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and medication CBT: This is one of the best treatment for people with social anxiety and it can help PWS immensely as well. There are lot of good articles and books about CBT which you should definitely read. In short CBT allows us to gradually reduce our fear of being judged, by progressively putting us in more and more scary situations until we become desensitized to them. Once you get desensitized, the freeze response declines, allowing us to speak more fluently. Because CBT inherently involves putting yourself in feared situation, it also improves our confidence. Again I cannot stress enough reading few books on it. You can also find a good therapist that specialize in cbt. Medication (or supplementation): First Talk to you doctor. All I'll say is there is high risk of dependence with medication. It is also secondary to behavioral modification and should only be used when absolutely needed. Anything that relaxes you or reduces physical symptoms of anxiety (beta blockers) can be helpful. I won't call out names, but after experimenting with several medication with my doctor, I've found a protocols thats helpful for me. I use it for critical situations like interviews, big presentations etc. Otherwise CBT has worked out for me in 99% of situations. Stutter is not all the same. I think the approach above will work for PWS whose stutter changes depending on the situation. For example, they might be fluent speaking to their dog, but not to their family.
