I am a speech pathologist and an expert in brain based teaching and learning. I have been researching the brain on how it learns for over 20 years. I discovered that I have a stuttering brain which is wired differently than the fluent brain. I wanted to find out what is different in my brain. I found out the fluent brain has voluntary control of their Valsalva response but my brain does not Once I was able to gain voluntary control of my Valsalva response I was able to achieve fluency. It was a life changing experience. I can finally say that I used to stutter all my life. It is a way to achieve fluency but is not something that occurs overnight. It gave me a pathway to fluency. I never in my life thought I would ever stop stuttering.
