Logotherapy and paradoxical intention I have just finished reading Man's Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl and at the end is a section about Logotherapy. I wondered whether anyone uses, has heard of or even applies paradoxical intention and what his/her thoughts on this matter are. For those who do not know what paradoxical intention is, here a short explanation (rephrased in my own words): Paradoxical intention is about breaking the vicious cycle of stuttering. If you come across a situation and you know you are going to stutter, don't say to yourself 'dear god, please don't let me stutter'. Instead, you should say 'This time I am really gonna stutter the shit out of the other person and show him how bad I stutter'. By really wanting to stutter, the fear of stuttering is eliminated, so you don't stutter. Edit: some weird grammar
