My buddy and I would go out to the bars and he would initiate the conversation with random groups of girls. I would follow-up to his lead. Get introduced to somebody. It takes the initial stress off of approaching them. (I met my wife through a mutual friend) Use all the non-speaking mediums available. I wish I had facebook or online dating when I was single. I would have used them to their fullest capacities.
